INDUSTRY:
Libya’s main industries are oil and gas production (which on discovery in the 50’s transformed its economic situation), cement, construction materials and textiles. Natural gas is a rich natural resource which has not yet been entirely exploited. The oil, manufacturing, traditional handicraft production, food-processing, textile, and tanning industries are all nationalised.
Foreign investment is being encouraged by the setting up of Free Zones and the relaxation of foreign exchange controls.
