INDUSTRY:

Bahrain’s largest sources of revenue are oil production and refining. In 1932, Bahrain became to the first state on the Arabian side of the Gulf to produce petroleum, with 60% of foreign revenue still arising from oil production.

Bahrain has become a financial centre. International banks have been licenced as offshore banking facilities availing themselves of the country's excellent communication and transportation infrastructure. Export orientated foreign investment is actively encouraged in Bahrain and import/export licenes are not required except for arms and alcohol.

There is a free transit area and a free trade zone industrial area, both at Mina Sulman.
